Pompey have had a little dabble with the bottom 3, we didn’t like it too much to be fair, so a result today against Europe chasing Everton is paramount.

Vital Quotes:

Paul Hart has had to fend off both Gekas and the Greek national manager this week, gekas feels he should be in the first team squad without having to prove himself in the reserves, while his manager at National level agrees with him. This one has ‘Ben Sahar’ written all over it, and you must wonder if the Greek goal-getter will ever feature in the blue of Pompey.

Pompey Team News:

Pompey are definitely without Pennant this afternoon, a calf strain picked up at ‘boro last week has curtailed his efforts, his hard running will be missed and will probably be replaced by Belhadj. One system change this may offer will be a switch for Nugent, he has patrolled the left inside forward position of late, and may switch sides to accomodate the left-footed Algerian.

The only other change that may be mooted could Basinas for Mullins, but Mullins had his best game since joining us from West Ham last week, so should hold down his place.

Player to watch: Nugent

Everton are his boyhood heroes, he pined for a move there before joining ourselves, so the best way to prove them wrong would be by adding to his goals tally against Liverpool based sides.

Everton Team News:

Everton are jinxed in the striking ranks this season, Yakubu has been absent since the early days of the season, while Vaughan and Anichibe have joined him in the long term stakes.

Cahill could make a surprise return to the side though, his calf injury has proved not as serious as first thought, and the half-kangaroo legged one may make the match after all.
Louis Saha has finally returned to full fitness though, and he and the on-loan Jo may make up a two-pronged attack.

Player to watch: Skreech Powers

Fellaini may have gone for a David James no-no haircut with the corn crops, but he has really come to the fore this season, he is providing the engine room, and although susceptible to a booking or two, is one of the first names on the sheet.

Match Facts & Stats

Pompey tore Everton apart at Goodison earlier in the season, our counter-attacking football was at its best, but those days have been few and far between since, so a touch of de-ja-vu wouldn’t go amiss.
