Pompey meet Bolton and something has to give. Both teams are pointless, so someone if not both will gain something out of the match.
Pompey have a few new faces available after a frenetic transfer burst at the close of the window, but how many will make the side?
Pompey are making all the right noises, the Milton end has sold out, kids for a quid has helped, and we should be in for our biggest crowd of the season, the apathy shown by the more fairweather fans testament to Pompey’s turmoil of recent months.
Zat Knight has called the game ‘must win’ for Bolton, so if he echoes his managers inbtentions, we should at least be in for an open game.
Pompey Team News:
Pompey could field an almost completely new side, Kranjcar has jumped ship, but has been replaced by O’Hara, this should see a square peg in a hole of the right shape for a change, and also up the workrate on the left.
The Prince has made the same journey as his former Spurs team mate, he is still a bit of an unknown quantity really, but he promises a more attacking style and if we are to believe those at vitalSpurs is a bit of a loose cannon.
Mike Williamson has joined old team mate Smith, if he steps straight in remains to be seen, Ben haim should feature.
Mokoena may well step back into midfield, Hughes looking the most likely to dip out.
Piquionne should have stepped up another gear in fitness terms, he has endeared himself thus far with his work ethic, a few goals will seal the deal.
Smith may get another chance on the right, but Webber will have the bench at best.
Hassan Yebda has apparently impressed in training, so maybe Hart will opt for him in an all new midfield.
One familiar face should return though, James is fit!
Player to watch: O’Hara
I really rate the bloke, he has hunger and will put his foot in, the left hand side of midfield has been wanting so far this season, maybe our loanee will give it the fillip it needs.
Bolton Team News:
Bolton are in the brown muddy stuff as well, although not as prominent in the transfer activity as Pompey, they have signed Klasnic, the phlegmy one looking for his debut after featuring on wednesday at Wembley.
Elmander picked up a knock for Sweden, he should be fit though, but absence guaranteed goes to Sean Davis, our old boy getting himself banned last time out after the defeat to Liverpool.
Player to watch: Kevin Davies
He is the fulcrum of their attack, if he can be kept under wraps the goals will be hard to find.
Match Facts & Stats
Pompey have won 3 of the last 4 meetings, Kanu featuring in the goals.
