Well here you go, a Pompey match report on a Saturday night as usual, I know we played on the Friday, but I thought I would wait like the Sports Mail.

Ok the above is all crap, I ended up working until 8pm last night, missed 80% of the match on the radio putting kids to bed and worked all day today, its taken until now to get round to it!

Pompey went with the same 11 as predicted, if there is one thing you are guaranteed with SC is that he doesn’t make changes for the sake of it, in the papers Pompey had promised to build on their quick starts after falling behind after early dominance, well this one was slightly different.

Swansea came out out of the blocks like Gillian McKeith going for a fresh colon deposit, Pompey had hardly touched the ball and it was 1-0 to the Welshmen, Gower crossed from the right and Beattie fired home from 12 yards, hardly the start you want against an in-form side.
Kitson though almost pulled us level instantly, De Vires going full stretch to deny our out of sorts striker.

That was as good as it got for Pompey for the next half hour, Swansea kept the ball and looked likely to score at will, but unlike the defeat to Derby earlier in the month, this time the boys in black held firm, shakily at times, but firm they stood. Dyer and Beattie both wasted great chances to double the lead, neither hitting the target and then it was Utaka’s turn, our resurgent Nigerian made a strong run down the left as he had against Doncaster, he fed Nugent with a lovely through ball and the nugget did the rest, with the ‘keeper closing him, he slid the ball through his legs to get his 6th goal of the season and gain Pompey parity, in a half we had clung on to, we were now level. Half-time arrived and the Cotterill hairdryer could be turned down a notch.

Second half and it was now suddenly all Pompey, the locals were restless as Pompey dominated proceedings now, the midfield was on top and lawrence more of his effervescent self with Brownie and Mullins doing the donkey work once more.
Halford was to provide the goal as he had at Hull before, this time though he met Lawrence’s flighted cross unmarked, nodding gleefully home.
Swansea tried to turn the game back in their favour, but Pompey came closest to another goal with Kitson heading narrowly over and Mokoena glancing wide, the Swans pushed towards the end but Pompey held firm for a third win on the road, the win also ended a dissapointing run that curtailled our great October, but now the men in Royal blue can look upwards once more.
