Pompey talk with powered_by_pies

We can now see what powered_by_pies had to say when asked a few questions about Pompey, the season just gone and the one ahead along with the ‘possible’ future ahead.

Vital Pompey has previously brought you the ‘knowing me knowing you series’ – which is still running, so others will be added and if you want to do one just email – and we had the ‘talking Pompey with’ series last summer, this now returns under a new name and some fresh questions as ‘Pompey talk with’…

powered_by_pies was asked 6 questions about the 2008/09 season and what the hopes are for the 2009/10, one and indeed our future, is.

This is what they said…

  • So, sum up the 2008/09 season in 3 words?
A chuffing nightmare! Completely not what I expected – I think the first major sign the club would fall into trouble was the departure of Frank’s uncle – from then on I knew we’d have a fight on our hands.

  • Suddenly things seem ‘a lot brighter’ for Pompey with Dr SAF taking over – what are your hopes/aspirations under the new ownership? Assuming everything goes through!
Stability is the buzz-word for this one – start the evolution gradually, training ground, work on the new stadium, some decent players coming in to bolster the squad, and build from there. I think we can use Citeh as an example of what we’ll expect to see. We’ll essentially be a couple of years behind them.

  • Which players – that we could realistically sign – would you like to see arrive this summer?
Messi, Ronaldo, Tevez, Kaka – oh, REALISTICALLY sign (lol)! I’m not sure who we could go for, and who’s available, but ideally, players who want to put in a good shift – not for the money, but for the shirt. If there are players out there who have a desire to ‘make it big’, then perhaps they’ll start seeing the opportunity to play for us as a chance to become part of something big.

  • If you had to select 1 player to ‘sell’ or ‘release’ this summer who would it be and why?
Taxi for Utaka! Actually, in all realism, I’d sell Davis. He seems to be um-ing and ah-ing a lot over his contract, which is an indication to me that he may not be ‘playing for the shirt’ as much as we first thought.

  • What are you hoping for from Pompey in the 2009/10 season?
10th-12th finish and I’ll be happy, any higher and I’ll be chuffed. I’d like to see a high-scoring game as well, something like the 7-4 match we saw last season against Reading. I’d also love to see us take apart one of the big 4 – it won’t happen, but I’d be pleased as punch if it did!

  • How many Pompey games do you expect to make during that season?
As many as possible – I won’t be exiled in Bournemouth next year due to being on work placement (hopefully!) and living at home, with the added bonus of having weekends off – I’ve been given a match ticket of my choice as a birthday present by my mate, and I fully expect to utilise that to go and see us take apart the Spuds at Fratton Park!

Thanks to powered_by_pies for answering these.

    PLAY UP POMPEY!
