Pompey slipped to another defeat, another game without a goal and another game without a shot on target.

Whilst Pompey are fighting on the pitch, the heart is slipping away from the players, this is perfectly forgivable, Mullins spoke on friday at home hard it is to see your team mates disappear around you, the worst thing is, it’s the players who want to be here who are being shipped out to reduce the ctippling wage bill, TBH and Kanu are still here, TBH would probably leave if he was made an offer, trouble is, his wage bracket is Premier class, his talents are not. Kanu in my opinion is tarnishing his status with us fans by simply not retiring, his body is knackered and he is nowhere near helping out the team, the biggest contribution he could make would be to hang up his boots, get his wages off the bill and sit back and reflect on what a priveleged and successful career he has had.

Anyway back to the game, Pompey made two changes, Henderson who had left for West Ham was replaced by Ashdown, Mullins who was an ever present was left out so he could mull over a move to another club, supposedly Reading.

The game itself followed an almost carbon copy blueprint to the midweek defeat to Reading, Pompey defended well enough, but a lack of threat up front and creativity in midfield cost us dear.

There was the usual contentuous refereeing decisions of course, Pompey were denied a penalty for the man handling of Futacs in the area, a lot softer have been given at Fratton against us in the last month, and of course the decision to award a soft free kick on Vicente that ultimatley led to the breakthtrough goal.

He was to add a second in injury time after Ben Haim was robbed in the right back position and he was allowed to slot home

For Pompey, Futacs played with heart up front once more, his goals have dried up, but he is still trying to play in those around him with his hold up play, Allan again was our was likely to score, although never actually hitting the target.

Brighton can go home happy with three points towards their play-off push, to be fair their second half performance warranted the win, but against Pompey since the team was started to get dismantled it does seem a case of be patient, on error will come or the ref will sooner or later make a big decision in your favour.

This may all seem like sour grapes to most, but if you were to analyse our last 6 or 7 games that is exactly the pattern the games have taken, not just me bleating about feeling hard done by, just fact.

The game next week against Bristol has taken on a real feel of last chance saloon, we lose that and it is all over, everyone around us are picking up a few points now, we are not.

Manager Rating
Appleton has come under some criticism from some quarters of later, completely unfounded if you ask me, he has both hands tied and is fighting a samurai with a pen knife.

  • Didn’t go but watched the game on the football league review and thought we should of had a pen when Fuctas was pushed down and you’ve gopt to look at Ashdown for their first, thought it was poor keeping. With Henderson going does this mean we’ll only have one keeper till the end of the season?

  • Anyone having a go at Appleton want to leave off – that madness! I thought the Brighton players went down at the drop of a hat. They will do well in the prem! It was so obvious it was ridiculous. I enjoyed the game – sort of, at least I did not get the feeling that the lads were giving up – unlike they did at FP last week. They might not be the quality we would like, but they are ours – or most of them are – and we are lucky to have lads like that. Lets get behind them for the rest of the season come what may. It must be harder for them than it ever is for us. At least they can take comfort from the knowledge that no matter what happens we are behind them.
(I’m sure the young lads behind me at the game have Laryngitis today – they should have – I have tinitus!!!!!) Come on everyone – its not over yet. And anyone who is downing Appleton wants shooting.
