Sylvain Distin become our first signing of the summer this afternoon as he was unveiled as a free transfer arrival, signing a 3 year contract with the club. The 29 year old joins his former City team mates David James and Andrew Cole, who have also signed for Pompey from City in the past 12 months.

Harry Redknapp has long since been an admirer of Distin’s, and along with other managers first made moves for him last summer. Since then it had looked very likely that the Frenchman’s time with City was running out – and so it has proved. Former City boss Stuart Pearce even removed the captain’s armband from Distin, handing it to Richard Dunne due to his reluctance to sign a new deal.

Distin confirmed his departure from City earlier this week and since then has been heavily linked with Pompey, with it now confirmed he is a Pompey player – with us reported to have fought off a lot of interest to sign the experienced central defender.

It was also hoped that confirmation of the Sulley Muntari deal would be revealed today at the press conference but this has been delayed until later in the week – but this is only due to lose ends being tied up, it is not a cause for concern. Titus Bramble is also expected to be a Pompey player by Sunday.

PLAY UP POMPEY!
