After weeks of trying Pompey have finally landed a “big name” we`ve all been looking for as Harry Redknapp completed the signing of one of his biggest transfer targets Sol Campbell.

Redknapp has continuously singled out Campbell as a player he would very much like to bring to Pompey and although many doubted it would happen and with Campbell himself expressing a desire to play abroad ‘arry has pulled of the free transfer signing of the England International. I`m sure Tony Adams had a big hand in persuading Sol to sign as well.

Campbell who will be 32 next month has signed a two-year contract and trained with the club today.

He may not be the big name player that everyone here at Vital Pompey wanted but his experience, quality and presence alone should be of huge benefit to the club and our youngsters. Hopefully he can have as big an impact on the club as the likes of past “veteran” signings Paul Merson and Teddy Sheringham did.

One thing that is certain is Pompey will continue to see more “Sol” this season after all? starting with a possible debut against former European Champions Porto in a friendly at Fratton on Thursday evening?
