Hats off, credit where it is due and all that malarkey, Pompey have confirmed that they have rejected an approach from ‘a premier league club’ for Sean Davis – with this club commonly believed to be Bolton.

Tony Adams has reiterated his desire to keep him at Pompey, confirming on the Pompey Site that a new 3-and-a-half year deal has been offered to him, we are just waiting for him to sign it: ‘Sean was fantastic for us against Fulham. His commitment and work-rate were magnificent.

‘He’s done great for this club and I would be mad to let him go somewhere else.

‘I can understand why other clubs would be interested in Sean but we need him right now, so it’s thanks but no thanks.

‘He’s happy here and I know that he’ll fight and give everything for Pompey from now until the end of the season.

‘We’ve offered him a three-and-a-half-year deal and we’re hopeful that he’ll sign that. I’d be delighted if he committed his future to this club because he’s a player that you can always rely on to give his all.’

Phew!

Yep I know he is not the greatest player in the world, but he wears his heart well and truly on his sleeve – I cannot think of another player that we currently have that offers as much as he does, if not in the quality stakes, but effort, determination and commitment. Others do, but he literally has grabbed most games by the scruff of the neck for the past few months, or at least tried to in each one.

Between now and the summer for me there is probably only one player that should captain the side, and that player should be Davis – a leader of men and a man that leads by example…

At least if he does not sign his new contract we will at least have him until the end of the season, something that could well prove vital!
