‘Nadir Belhadj was the man of the match against Wigan’, not my vote, yours – although these findings from pompeyrug’s poll are thoughts that I do not necessarily agree with to be honest… That is not to say that I did not think he played well!
The Algerian came on for Steve Finnan just before half time when he picked up another injury, this saw Tal Ben-Haim – who had his best game for Pompey playing on the right – shift to right back and Belhadj came in at left back. To be fair to the guy he was a little unlucky not to have started the game anyway perhaps as he put in his best showing for a long time against Stoke in the league cup prior to the Wigan game.
Going forward has never really been an issue for Belhadj, it has just been defensively he can be shocking! But against Wigan, as he had Stoke, he did this very well – taking little, or no risks and defending like a defender should. His attacking threat had been a little limited this season as his confidence seemed to have drained, but again against both Stoke and Wigan this was back to what we had seen previously.
So, yep the guy played well but I still think that Michael Brown or Jamie O’Hara offered a little more, then you also have Hassan Yebda, Younes Kaboul and Marc Wilson – not forgetting the man who got a hat-trick, Aruna Dindane who not only scored goals but played well.
In fact they all played well as all in all this was a tremendous team effort!
It was actually Dindane that got the official Air Malta man of the match award.
Before we move on what are your thoughts on what the last poll concluded? You know what to do, thoughts below please guys…
PLAY UP POMPEY!
