Bolton are next through the Pompey revolving doors, their safety is pretty much assured and Pompey can take a giant step to joining them with 3 priceless points.
Matt Taylor makes his first trip home also, he is still missed by many and his form is surely worthy of some form of England recognition.
Paul Hart is making no apologies for his Pompey formations, he has taken a very safety first view of the squad and can certainly not be compared to ‘tinkerman’ Ranieri with his team selections!
Pompey’s football may not be at its free-flowing best right now, but the points are trickling in after a mid-season slump under the previous regime, and obviously survival is paramount before out-and-out entertainment, maybe when safety is assured the shackles will come off and we can have a peek to the future?
Matty Taylor makes a homecoming and has stated that Pompey have enough about them to survive, I really feel he didn’t want to move North 15 months ago, and its one of the worst pieces of business the man with more twitches than Wurzel Gummidge produced in his time at the club.
Pompey Team News:
Pompey should be able to welcome back Sean Davis back from injury, and also Glen Johnson from his ban, Younes Kaboul feels he will be the man to make way for Jonno’s return, but Hart has a tendency to stay loyal to those who have their hands on the shirts, and Pennant must be under as much threat as the Frenchman.
Davis you would hope would bounce straight back into midfield, he averages a goal a season for Pompey, but still contains more of an attacking threat than both the defensive playbreakers Hughes and Mullins.
Gekas may get another chance from the bench after impressing in his 10 second cameo last week.
Player to watch: Campbell
Pompey are always spoken of by commentators as a ‘big’ team, but since Diop has been injured our ariel threat and prowress has dwindled and Bolton will provide a greater ariel threat, so campbell need to be at his imposing best to deal with Davies and all.
Bolton Team News:
Bolton may well stay loyal to the team that bundled in 3 goals in the last part of the Chelsea match last week, the man with best name in football Shittu is the biggest doubt with an ankle knock.
Ex-blues Taylor and O’Brien should start, both scoring last week, but the other score Basham will have to do it from the bench again.
Player to watch: Taylor
He and Davies provide the main threats, Taylor has score 10 so far this season and is the 3rd highest scoring english midfielder this season.
Match Facts & Stats
A defeat at the Reebok earlier in the season came after we achieved the double over the trotters last term, but all the scorers from those games look doubtful to score for Pompey this time (Diarra, Taylor, Kanu and Utaka)
Sir Horace Gentleman
If relegation safety resembled a marathon, Bolton would have the royal box to go, Pompey would on about 22 miles and be the bloke dehydrating and staggering in a rhino suit, but can we overtake Jimmy Saville tomorrow? hedge a bet here.
