Pompey gutted in defeat

‘Fortune favours the brave’, really? not in this case, Pompey came and had a real go against Chelsea, they never scored and conceded 4, all in the second half and 3 of which were in the last 5 minutes as they pushed for a consolation.

Pompey were not overwhelmed by the occasion and should of had the lead in the first minute, Futacs flicked on and Kitson barged his way into the area, with only Cech to beat he dragged his shot wide, the goal trail remains dry for this striker.

The first half was evenly fought out, David Norris shone particularly brightly for Pompey in the first half, almost capitalising on Cole’s mistake, he like Kitsoin before him shot wide.

Henderson was doing his bit at the back too, palming away a powerful Torres header, Torres has seen his goals dry right up as well, his pricetag is somewhat higher than copper top though!

Pompey had more than held their own in the first half, this was all undone just 2 minutes into the second half, Cole got away with a bit of hand juggling and was allowed to proceed and square for Mata to roll home.

Pompey almost pulled level 10 minutes later, the again impressive Futacs spun his man and shot to goal, Cech saved and the ball looped up, Ward nodded toward goal and Terry was forced into a desperate goal line clearance, colliding with the post as he did so. This gave Terry the chance to milk it a bit for 3 minutes and draw the sting from Pompey’s pressure.

With time ticking away and Pompey pushing forward, Ramires ended any hopes with a quick double, Torres played him in and he nudged ahead of Halford to prod home, and then added another 3 minutes later, again fed by Torres.

That bloke Lampard then added a cruel third in injury time, I don’t know how many times he has scored against us but it seems to be every single time!

Pompey look thrashed on paper, but Pompey fans know the real display proved otherwise.

One thing of note, if you want a true reflection of a game, don’t bother with Express fm anymore, Mark Mudie is so biased it is embarassing, without Macca to keep him in check he insists the ball is out of play when it isn’t, every tackle against Pompey is a certain red card and generally ruins any commentary, cheers Mark, i now will have to listen to medium wave again!
