Pompey have ‘laughed off’ the suggestion that Sol Campbell missed the game with Derby at the weekend for any other reason other than injury.

The ‘official’ line is that Campbell picked up a back injury in training last week but ‘unofficially’ it is thought that an argument between the player and Harry Redknapp and/or Peter Storrie had led to him ‘storming off’ – and it has since been said a move to Newcastle was imminent.

But this has all been denied by a Pompey Spokesperson, who has told The Sun: ‘it’s quite simple, Sol had a back problem and he’s been having treatment on it all week.

‘We hoped he would be fit, but he couldn’t make it.

‘I spoke to Peter Storrie about it and he laughed and said it was rubbish’.

The club are hardly likely to admit anything is wrong, but all we can now do is accept this and hopefully move on. To be honest I was not convinced by the ‘injury’ stories myself, but have been told today that an injury has been logged with the premier league – so it must be the truth…

As I say hopefully this will now be the end of the matter and we can look ahead to the game with United now with Campbell leading us – as I would not expect him to feature against Plymouth in the cup regardless.
