Harry Redknapp has told The News that reports linking Pompey with Osasuna striker Pierre Webo and Lokomotiv Moscow striker Garry O`Connor are not true.

‘It’s rubbish. I’m not after either of them.

‘It’s tough finding strikers – I’m not making too much progress. As I’ve said before, it’s difficult to compete.’

As usual you would not expect Redknapp to admit it even if he were after them. However he did go to Spain to watch a game at the weekend – which has probably brought about the links with Cameroon international Webo – but he is not giving away any information on any players who may have been spotted.

‘There were a lot of good players on show. It was a good game to watch, but I don’t know if anything will come of it. I just wanted to watch a match.’

One man that continues to be linked with Pompey is Rennes and Nigerian striker John Utaka – but it is firmly believed that Pompey are unlikely to sign any other players taking part in the African Nations – so would this rule out Yakubu for sure then? Nope, he would be the exception to the rule I am sure.
