Portsmouth midfielder Papa Bouba Diop explains why he’s delighted to be at Fratton Park after being given the cold shoulder at Fulham.

‘I feel that I am playing my best football since arriving in England. I was getting a bit stale at Fulham; the team, in my opinion, wasn’t really going anywhere and I needed a new challenge to revitalise my game. When Lawrie Sanchez took over at the club, he made it abundantly clear I wasn’t a part of his plans, and that was all the incentive I needed to move on.

‘Some might have seen Portsmouth as a side-ways step, but once I’d met with Harry, heard his plans and looked at the squad in place, I knew this was a club going places. We’ve proved that already. What I also like is the African influence we have here. The likes of Benjani, Sulley Muntari, Kanu, John Utaka and Djimi Traore have all helped me settle in. With Africans you always get a strong work ethic, which we have at the club. But it would be wrong to single out just those players. There is a spirit and belief running right through this club.’
