Another feature, again courtesy of our sister site PompeyRama, sees us look at those Pompey personalities – past or present – who have a birthday on this day.

9/11/1929: Maurice Leather
9/11/1953: Jeff King
9/11/1965: Steve Agnew
9/11/1965: Jimmy Carter
9/11/1967: Chris Burns

From the Ed

Happy birthday to Maurice Leather, Jeff King, Steve Agnew, Jimmy Carter Chris Burn – the Pompey players from the Blues’ past born on this day.

Leather was well before my time and not known to me either – the same applying to most too I would think.

All three of King, less so, Agnew, Carter and Burns are players I know pretty well but are also players who I didn’t really see much, if anything of, in action for Pompey and know them more from spells with other clubs really.

Now onto the games previously played.

Played – 15
Won – 5
Drawn – 4
Lost – 6

I remember a good few of these games today, some I would rather I didn’t but can only claim the one – this being a midweek draw with QPR at Fratton Park in 2010, when, if I recall correctly, we were perhaps a little hard done by not to get more than the point we did.

What are your memories of Leather, King, Agnew, Carter and/or Burn from their Pompey days? Also have you taken in any of the games previously played today – if so what are the memories from them too?

  • Saw a lot of Agnew, Burns & Carter. Agnew was always brilliant against us but never quite didi it here. Carter on the wing never reached his potential & Burns we got from non-league & punch well above his weight under Jim Smith.
There for the games in 1991, 2010 & the embarrasing draw with Aldershot in 2015. Worse to follow as we lost the replay.

  • 14,10&91…..14 a poor performance & lost the replay..10 a last min equaliser robbed us of a point & 91 got a win…saw 4/5 birthdays…King on loan & saw him score,Agnew again on loan,Carter not great given his reputation & Burns had a couple of good seasons inc the Semi-Final…he’s been back here a few times & Ive met him,he is a lovely bloke
