Another feature, again courtesy of our sister site PompeyRama, sees us look at those Pompey personalities – past or present – who have a birthday on this day.

8/1/1948: Norman Piper
8/1/1982: John Utaka

From the Ed

Happy birthday to Norman Piper and John Utaka – the Pompey players from the Blues’ past born on this day.

Piper was before my time but I know of him well enough from what people have told me. However, I recall – cannot say I always want to – Utaka from his time with Pompey very well. Sometimes sublime but all too often ridiculous wasn’t he…

Now onto the games previously played.

Played – 12
Won – 3
Drawn – 3
Lost – 6

I end my run of days without a game as I’ve managed – and recall a fair few others – the last two FA Cup ties. I still think the defeat at Stamford Bridge against Chelsea in 2012 was a little harsh. However, the 2011 loss at Brighton wasn’t as we got what we deserved in that defeat.

What are your memories of Piper and/or Utaka from their Pompey days? Also have you taken in any of the games previously played today – if so what are the memories from them too?
