Another feature, again courtesy of our sister site PompeyRama, sees us look at those Pompey personalities – past or present – who have a birthday on this day.

6/1/1927: Reg Pickett
6/1/1932: Phil Gunter

From the Ed

Happy birthday to Reg Pickett and Phil Gunter – the Pompey players from the Blues’ past born on this day.

Both Pickett and Gunter are well before my time and not really known to me either in all honesty.

Now onto the games previously played.

Played – 12
Won – 3
Drawn – 2
Lost – 7

We’ve not seen too many games on this day since 1990 but I do recall most since that time. I can claim the one game though – the FA Cup win at Fratton Park against Wigan a decade ago.

What are your memories of Pickett and/or Gunter – I suspect both are too soon for anyone reading though – from their Pompey days? Also have you taken in any of the games previously played today – if so what are the memories from them too?

  • Just 07 but importantly it was a win …neither bday, but both famous players here, but before my time unfortunately

  • Went to Cardiff in 1968 – fifty years ago and got soaked, game should never have been played.

The late Phil Gunter taught me at school.
