Another feature, again courtesy of our sister site PompeyRama, sees us look at those Pompey personalities – past or present – who have a birthday on this day.

2/5/1962: Micky Quinn
2/5/1969: Tony Dobson
2/5/1985: David Nugent
2/5/1988: Stephen Henderson

From the Ed

Happy birthday to Micky Quinn, Tony Dobson, David Nugent and Stephen Henderson – the Pompey players from the Blues’ past born on this day.

Few wouldn’t know of Quinn, be this from his playing days or radio broadcasting one, but I didn’t actually see him play. Well, not for Pompey anyway.

I did see a little of Dobson, plenty of Nugent and Henderson, who both had decent spells – Henderson’s loan return this season wasn’t one to recall mind – with the Blues really, the former after a difficult start, shall we say.

Now onto the games previously played.

Played – 18
Won – 7
Drawn – 4
Lost – 7

Literally nothing in the 18 played as we’ve won and lost the same amount, the others have ended in draws.

A hat trick of Fratton Park games today, but I’ve never seen a Pompey win. They include the draw with York in 2015, the visit of Norwich in 2011, which ended in a defeat and the 2009 loss against Arsenal.

What are your memories of Quinn, Dobson, Nugent and/or Henderson from their Pompey days? Also, have you taken in any of the games previously played today – if so what are the memories of them too?

  • 15,11,09,92,88,87,&83….An absolute glut of games, most recently not very good,15 a draw, defeats in 11&09 without scoring,(thankfully I missed 01 as I was working that night),92 a win after the Cup run,88 was our last home game in our only season in Div1,87 was the opposite,it was the game that took us up to Div1,both famous goals of course & 83 a rare draw at home as we won the Championship…saw all the B’days with Quinny being my favourite, loved him when he was here,Nugent who has got an FaCup winners medal of course & lived in the famous lipstick building in Gunwharf,Henderson who came back this season & crocked himself after 1 game!! & finally Dobson who was the best to be fair..
