Another feature, again courtesy of our sister site PompeyRama, sees us look at those Pompey personalities – past or present – who have a birthday on this day.

27/12/1896: Ralph Hoten
27/12/1917: Jimmy McAlinden
27/12/1935: Derek Weddle
27/12/1953: Bobby Doyle
27/12/1967: Mark Stimson

From the Ed

Happy birthday to Ralph Hoten, Jimmy McAlinden, Derek Weddle, Bobby Doyle and Mark Stimson – the Pompey players from the Blues’ past born on this day.

Weddle, McAlinden and Hoten were all well before my time. However, I know of Doyle by name but that’s it.

As for Stimson, I know him pretty well, even if I cannot really claim to have seen much of him during his Pompey days.

Now onto the games previously played.

Played – 27
Won – 9
Drawn – 12
Lost – 6

Another day that – despite not having any in over 20 years – has seen a fair few games played. This record isn’t too bad either. However, due to the aforementioned fact we’ve not had a game on this day since 1994 it isn’t a surprise I cannot claim one.

What are your memories of Hoten, McAlinden, Weddle – all three probably too early for anyone, Doyle and Stimson from their Pompey days? Also have you taken in any of the games previously played today – if so what are the memories from them too?
