Another feature, again courtesy of our sister site PompeyRama, sees us look at those Pompey personalities – past or present – who have a birthday on this day.

24/11/1955: Clive Whitehead
24/11/1967: Gavin Maguire

From the Ed

Happy birthday to Clive Whitehead and Gavin Maguire – the Pompey players from the Blues’ past born on this day.

Whitehead was before my time and days watching Pompey regularly – Maguire is known mainly by his ‘reputation’ from what others told me as I didn’t really sure much of him during his time with the Blues.

Now onto the games previously played.

Played – 16
Won – 6
Drawn – 4
Lost – 6

A day where I recall a good number of games but can only claim the one – not a bad one to see though as that second half against York in 2015 was particularly good. There wasn’t really much sign of a 6-0 win though having gone into the interval goalless at Fratton Park.

What are your memories of Whitehead and/or Maguire from their Pompey days? Also have you taken in any of the games previously played today – if so what are the memories from them too?

  • Birthdays, saw a lot of both players, Clive Whitehead was a good pro & did well for us. Maguire was a thug & I was quite embarrassed to see him in a blue shirt.
Lots of memories here, went to the 1979 cup win over Newport & the 6-0 win over York two years ago, all the goals coming in the second half.
2003, Monday night sky game & Berger gets sent off as we lose 2-0, happier recolection of the 2-0 away at Brum during that wonderful season 10 years ago.

  • 15,79&73…with 07 & 03 on tv(07 was in the Avenue Hotel)…big win in 06 of course,79 in the Cup &73 one of my favourites Richie Reynolds got both(1 was a header in the Fratton End)captured in the News ….Whitehead & Maguire of course, seen them both
