Another feature, again courtesy of our sister site PompeyRama, sees us look at those Pompey personalities – past or present – who have a birthday on this day.

23/10/1973: Christian Dailly
23/10/1974: Sander Westerveld

From the Ed

Happy birthday to Christian Dailly and Sander Westerveld – the Pompey players from the Blues’ past born on this day.

I do remember both Dailly and Westerveld well from spells with Pompey – they had both been seasoned internationals and regulars at the highest levels but it didn’t really work out for them with the Blues did it.

Now onto the games previously played.

Played – 18
Won – 6
Drawn – 7
Lost – 5

Plenty of the games are remembered, including Braga but didn’t do that one as I’d already done neighbouring Guimares and wanted to do Wolfsburg too. Stevenage was played when away with my wife for a few days so I did get to listen.

However, my only game was a win at Hull in 2010, which ended a run of three years running going to the KC Stadium – as it was known at the time – to finally get a win.

What are your memories of Dailly and/or Westerveld from their Pompey days? Also have you taken in any of the games previously played today – if so what are the memories from them too?

  • 82,79&76…Long time without a game..but at least I’ve got a win.79 we lost to Newport at home in the league but beat them a few weeks later 4-0 in the Cup…saw both birthdays play..I was amongst the 4,000 or so for the Barnet cup match which was Dailly’s only Fratton appearance & Westerveld of course the goalie..see him play as well

  • The home game in 94 b& the european away game in Portugal in 2008. Nice place Braga but we were awful & HR soon left. Bitter sweet memories of all that.
