End of season fare and a tiny crowd too – in fact only one smaller in Pompey history. Bobby Doyle score two penalties and that would be bettered by Kevin Dillon in November 1986 when he hit hat-trick of penalties in a Full Members Cup Tie against Millwall!!

At the end of the worst winter on record – Pompey did not play a league game between Boxing Day and 23 February – Chelsea need to win to clinch promotion. They ‘manage` it with four goals from Hayling Islander Bobby Tambling and one from future owner Terry Venables.
