Another feature, again courtesy of our sister site PompeyRama, sees us look at those Pompey personalities – past or present – who have a birthday on this day.

21/2/1908: George Ross
21/2/1933: Cyril Rutter
21/2/1992: Gauthier Mahoto

From the Ed

Happy birthday to George Ross, Cyril Rutter and Gauthier Mahoto – the Pompey players from the Blues’ past born on this day.

Ross and Rutter were well before my time but I do recall Mahoto. Well, at least I remember him by name, but not sure if Mahoto actually played a first team game during his time at Fratton Park or not? If he did I may well have seen him.

Now onto the games previously played.

Played – 14
Won – 7
Drawn – 3
Lost – 4

As we’ve not had a home game since the mid 1990s I draw a blank today but do recall most of the recent games.

What are your memories of Ross, Rutter – Ross definitely and Rutter probably before anyone reading – and/or Mahoto from their Pompey days? Also have you taken in any of the games previously played today – if so what are the memories from them too?

  • Just one game for me & the home win in 1995. Remember the 2009 draw with Stoke, with a flurry of late goals with ex scummer Beattie scoring a very late & controversial equaliser. 2015 and we went mad at Cambridge..

  • 15&09…2 games both away, don’t think that’s ever happened before.Missed 95 which is the only game at Fratton since 71 when I started going….Got the most ever away goals in15 I’ve ever seen & a win of course more importantly & 09 took my son to tick off the Brittania & we scored late for a change to get a point…No B’days for me, as Mahoto only played 1 game as a sub v Hereford in a League Cup tie & I didn’t go

  • Fellas surely you were thee in 1968 among the 44,000 who got into the Park – they reckon 10,000 were locked out too. What a night! Fifty years ago today and the biggest crowd I have been in at Fratton.

Met Cyril Rutter many years ago and think he is still alive.
