Another feature, again courtesy of our sister site PompeyRama, sees us look at those Pompey personalities – past or present – who have a birthday on this day.

1/12/1949: Malcolm Manley

From the Ed

Happy birthday to Malcolm Manley – the Pompey player from the Blues’ past born on this day.

Manley was a player before my time though and in all honesty I couldn’t say I know much, if anything, about him either but no doubt plenty reading on will.

Now onto the games previously played.

Played – 12
Won – 3
Drawn – 7
Lost – 2

A couple of games for me today including the most recent one.

I recall arriving into Fratton Park just in time for an early Aston Villa goal in that defeat in the League Cup, which denied us a semi-final place in 2009 if I recall correctly? I was also at Fratton for the draw with Everton in 2007.

What are your memories of Manley from his Pompey days? Also have you taken in any of the games previously played today – if so what are the memories from them too?

  • 09,07,90,84&79…09 was the nearest to a League Cup run I’ve ever been near ( in 46 years ),84 was Vince Hilaire’s debut & he scored of course,a diving header in the Fratton End & 79 got my only win.You can always rely on 79/80 at home to tick off a win on a certain date!!…real shame about Manley had started really well here but got a serious knee injury & that was that
