A look back at this day in history, and what was happening with Pompey courtesy of our sister site PompeyRama.

No Pompey games have previously played on this day.

Due to this lack of games, well, none of them it will be straight onto the other feature – again courtesy of PompeyRama – looking at those Pompey personalities – past or present – who have a birthday on this day.

From the Ed

Happy birthday to Harry Penk, Zvonimir Vukic and Gregory Vignal – the Pompey players from the Blues’ past born on this day.

Penk isn’t one I saw – I doubt anyone reading did – from his Pompey days but I can recall Vukic and Vignal – and saw both – when they player for the Blues.

In all honesty cannot remember too much about Vukic, I did see him from his short time at Fratton Park but really don’t think he made much of an impact? Well, he certainly didn’t make an impression on me.

Vignal, another curious one as he came to Fratton with a decent background, you do not spent several years at Liverpool if you’re a mug, but he was another who didn’t quite fit at Pompey.

The Frenchman went on to play for the Saints after – or was it before – didn’t he? Along with Birmingham, which didn’t go too badly if I recall correctly?

What are your memories of Penk – too early I would think, Vukic and/or Vignal from their Pompey days?
