A look back at this day in history, and what was happening with Pompey courtesy of our sister site PompeyRama.

No Pompey games have previously played on this day.

Due to this lack of games, well, none of them it will be straight onto the other feature – again courtesy of PompeyRama – looking at those Pompey personalities – past or present – who have a birthday on this day.

16/7/1971: Carl Griffiths

From the Ed

Happy birthday to Carl Griffiths – the Pompey player from the Blues’ past born on this day.

I didn’t actually see much of Griffiths when he played at Fratton Park and know more about his career from spells elsewhere – think others would have though.

He had his moments but Griffiths probably not one of those former Blues too many remember with huge fondness is he.

What are your memories of Griffiths from his Pompey days?
