Another feature, again courtesy of our sister site PompeyRama, sees us look at those Pompey personalities ā€“ past or present ā€“ who have a birthday on this day.

16/4/1970: Arjan De Zeeuw
16/4/1981: David Birmingham

From the Ed

Happy birthday to Arjan De Zeeuw and David Birmingham – the Pompey players from the Blues’ past born on this day.

De Zeeuw is a player I’ll always recall. The experienced Dutchman had a much bigger impact at Fratton Park than most would have expected from the experienced, now a police officer of some sort I think?

Birmingham didn’t get much of a chance during his time with Pompey, playing just the one game for the Blues I think? Iā€™m sure this was at Ipswich and I saw it.

Now onto the games previously played.

Played – 22
Won – 10
Drawn – 7
Lost – 5

Not a bad day at all, as 10 of these games ended in Blues victorious.

Like I say, it hasn’t been a bad day at all, but the only game I can claim was the defeat at Fratton against Plymouth in 2016.

What are your memories of De Zeeuw and/or Birmingham from their Pompey days? Also have you taken in any of the games previously played today – if so what are the memories from them too?

  • 16,11,91,90 &77…..16 should’ve won, dominated the game & let in 2 late goals.11 was a trip to tick off Cardiff’s new ground, bad day, we lost 3-0 & Rocha got sent off..91&90 successive home wins both against Brighton with 2 different manager’s, 77 a famous win with a Kempy hat-trick, as a member of the young supporters club I went & watched a recording of it at the Rock Gardens Pavilion at a later date but went to the match of course…De Zeeuw a massive favourite of course & he recently returned to play in the Lee Rigby game at Portchester & Birminghamgham I know ( he’s a boxer now) but this site has his birthday wrong!! ( It’s actually in September)…

  • Happy birthday dad.
There for the home games in 1990, took my then girlfriend to her first Pompey game & went the following year, Brighton again. Then that painful defeat to Plymouth 2 years ago.
De Zeeuw was brilliant for us.

  • Well, you learn something new all the time. Had no idea Birmingham was a Boxer now, thanks for letting me know Copnor. Also, thanks for letting me know about his birthday, is it just listed wrongly on here or on PompeyRama too?

  • Hi Matthew, not sure I’ve seen you comment before? So, welcome to you, hope to see more from you. Oh yes, De Zeeuw was a different class wasn’t he, what a leader and what a defender.
