Another feature, again courtesy of our sister site PompeyRama, sees us look at those Pompey personalities – past or present – who have a birthday on this day.

14/11/1947: Mick Mellows

From the Ed

Happy birthday to Mick Mellows – the Pompey player from the Blues’ past born on this day.

Mellows is known to me pretty well but only by name, I’m sure a good few will recall him though.

Now onto the games previously played.

Played – 13
Won – 5
Drawn – 3
Lost – 5

I recall talking about going to the Grimsby game in 1998 but this didn’t happen with it leaving me with just the one game, the most recent one.

With a friend of mine based in Coventry, and England having a Euro 2000 play-off with Scotland and Lennox Lewis fighting – I think Evander Holyfield – I took in a weekend away to see the lot and completed it with game at the Hawthorns against West Brom in 1999 – that ended in an entertaining enough game, but one we lost.

What are your memories of Mellows from his Pompey days? Also have you taken in any of the games previously played today – if so what are the memories from them too?
