Another feature, again courtesy of our sister site PompeyRama, sees us look at those Pompey personalities – past or present – who have a birthday on this day.

13/9/1891: David Cold
13/9/1967: Warren Aspinall
13/9/1989: Bondz N’Gala
13/9/1991: Sonny Bradley

From the Ed

Happy birthday to David Cold, Warren Aspinall, Bondz N’Gala and Sonny Bradley – the Pompey players from the Blues’ past born on this day.

Cold was clearly before my time, in fact anyone else’s for that matter, but I recall Aspinall well from the 1990s – even if I didn’t actually see that much of him in action for Pompey.

Despite only having short spells with the Blues, N’Gala and Bradley didn’t do too badly really, all things considered. I do not recall him moving on so think we’ll again come up against Bradley this season due to him playing for Plymouth – not sure when N’Gala is now though?

Now onto the games previously played.

Played – 19
Won – 6
Drawn – 5
Lost – 8

I cannot say I recall much about it from the one game I can claim, this was a win though – that being a 2008 victory against Middlesbrough at Fratton Park.

What are your memories of Cold – clearly not seen in action by anyone, Aspinall, N’Gala and/or Bradley from their Pompey days? Also have you taken in any of the games previously played today – if so what are the memories from them too?

  • There in 1986 as we beat Blackburn 1-0, Mick Kennedy our captain with the goal. We got promoted that season to the top flight, for the first time in most of our lifetime. A crowd of under 9,000!!!
There for th shock home defeat to Crewe in 1997, still have vivid memories 20 years on.
2008 & a Defoe double set us up for our forthcoming first European game.
Not at Arsenal in 2003 but the game with the dodgy Pieres penalty and Arsenal going on to remain unbeaten that season & our first in the prem.

  • 14,08,86,83&77….14 was to tick Southend off my list,we were awful that day.08 a brace from JD,86 was our promotion season & a terrible attendance by the way. Also went in 83 &77, loved going to games around the time Biley & Webb were playing….Of the birthdays Aspinall the best, Bondz did score a few & Bradley to this day not very popular
