Another feature, again courtesy of our sister site PompeyRama, sees us look at those Pompey personalities – past or present – who have a birthday on this day.

12/10/1926: Allan Brown
12/10/1949: Paul Went
12/10/1951: Jimmy McCaffrey
12/10/1962: Kevin Bartlett
12/10/1979: Paul Benson
12/10/1980: Luke Nightingale

From the Ed

Happy birthday to Allan Brown, Paul Went, Jimmy McCaffrey, Kevin Bartlett, Paul Benson and Luke Nightingale – the Pompey players from the Blues’ past born on this day.

Brown was definitely before my time – probably that of anyone else – as were Went – one I do know by name – and McCaffrey.

Bartlett is another I didn’t know from Pompey days but did with other clubs after he moved on. In fact, my old man used to be best friends with his brother when Dad was a schoolboy with the Blues.

Benson, who didn’t have the impact with Pompey his previous suggested he could, is recalled from his short loan at Fratton Park. It didn’t exactly work with us but he had a good career and did especially well with Luton following his stint on the south coast.

I would think Nightingale is a name most of us will know and probably saw? I recall his two goal debut from the bench against West Brom in the late 1990s, but sadly injuries prevented him from ever really reaching the potential he had.

Now onto the games previously played.

Played – 15
Won – 3
Drawn – 6
Lost – 6

We’ve not played too many games on this day – not won too many luck either – in the past 30 years or but I can still claim a game, this being the most recent when we draw at Plymouth in 2013.

What are your memories of Brown – too early to have seen, Went, McCaffrey, Bartlett, Benson and/or Nightingale from their Pompey days? Also have you taken in any of the games previously played today – if so what are the memories from them too?
