Well, maybe not ‘just that time again’, would it be too much of an exaggeration to say it is ‘judgement day(s)’…

There was once a time, a short time anyway, when the transfer window was met with glee as we had gone passed – pretty much – the ‘we will lose him’ stage and VERY MUCH moved onto the ‘you know what I reckon we will sign him you know’ way of though instead…

If ONLY the true costs of that way of thinking, and the huge, crippling wages and fees paid out that happened as we assembled a team of ‘superstars’ way, way beyond our means was known then like it is now eh! Although, lets be honest we MUST have had a few concerns at the time about ‘how’ we could afford this – then again your ‘trust’ goes in those running the show as they ‘know what they are doing,’ right?

Wrong!

Now each window in recent times has been met with a mighty groan as we thinking about who will be the latest ‘asset stripped’ this time – and the expectation from most of us again this time MUST be ‘which of our remaining assets will be stripped away this time,’ not that we have many of them left!

The major problem that we have is these assets are NOT worth much, so the fear – and I think a realistic fear – is this latest bout of asset stripping can surely only be a temporary measure to ‘keep us afloat for now…What happens when these remaining assets are finally gone?

Avram Grant says ‘we cannot afford to sell our stars’ but can we afford NOT to sell them? That is the big question – and one that we will soon see answered.

My MAIN concern is that we have a club left, ‘if’ the situation is as ‘out of control’ as it sounds then, like I say, this would only be a temporary measure anyway until we get to the ‘no way out’ time…

‘If’ more players are sold then this is the clearest indication that things are even worse than many might think, then again I would suspect that few of us would have much surprise about anything would we?

When Grant was appointed I thought that ‘perhaps’ it was a sign that things were ‘looking up’ as he would not have been na├»ve enough to take on a job that would have seen him have further assets ripped away from under his feet, would he? In doing this his hands would have been ‘as tied’ as those before him!

These ‘we cannot afford to sell’ and ‘I need to strengthen’ thoughts do not really leave me thinking that he is thinking any different in this approach now – so lets wait and see…

Although I would think that he ‘could’ be ‘caught with his pants down’ AGAIN in the weeks ahead, and unlike others before him I am not sure he would stick around! So, what that would mean God only knows!

The next 4-weeks or so OFF the pitch more than ON it WILL answer so many questions that so many of us want answering and determine how much of a ‘shelf life’ Pompey has left…

I just hope that the answers we get are not so bad that they have come too late, then again WHAT can we do?

At this point in time many signs point to ‘ruin’ and we do looked f***ed – although time will tell, all we can do is HOPE, and I do not think that we are left with much but hope, that our worst fears do not materialise – and trust me I am not talking relegation, that I could deal with if I was not as fearful of what the consequences of that would be! – and those ‘said’ to be ‘running us’ now actually ARE doing this to save us with a ‘long-term’ plan in mind…
