The fact that Dave Nugent had gone to, and has now returned from Germany after his hernia operation has not gone unnoticed – it is something that I had planned to write about but things have been hectic the past 24 hours or so…

Nugent had been carrying a problem and was unable to take part in the 2nd half against Plymouth last weekend, so he flew out to see a specialist this week, and it was confirmed he needed a hernia operation, so this specialist performed it.

He is now back home and is resting up for the weekend, but will be back in the gym on Monday as he starts his rehabilitation.

Many might feel that the arrival of firstly Milan Baros on loan and then dramatically Jermain Defoe late in the day on deadline day, added to the fact that we also have Kanu, John Utaka – who could play up front – and maybe even Benjani still will mean that he is less likely to feature in the remainder of this season, and would be even more likely to move on in the summer… but I am not convinced by this.

Preferably I would like to see a Defoe and Benjani pairing, but if he leaves it will probably be Defoe and Baros – at least until Nugent is fit. Although having said that Kanu is probably bound to feature, when fit?

Maybe it will not happen, but I do think that Defoe and Nugent could be a pretty handy partnership so I would not write this off as the longer term option just yet…
