After scoring the winning goal against Ipswich last weekend Dave Nugent is straining at the leash to be given a chance against Sunderland this weekend, to try and prove that he is worthy of his place in the premier league.

Harry Redknapp has been unconvinced by him for the most part this season and The News have said that he has had concerns about his ‘performance in training’.

However Nugent has been putting in extra shifts to improve his fitness and prove that he is up for the fight and he is hoping that this, and his goal against Ipswich will help him get a start that he deserves against Sunderland on Sunday.

I have been very impressed with him recently, and against Ipswich he was almost unplayable for around 20 minutes or so after he came on and made a huge difference. Yep, David James’ saves ensured we won, but his goal ultimately won us the tie.

It all depends on what formation that Redknapp plays – if he is still here? – if he goes for his usual 4-5-1, unless he moves Benjani out to the right I am not sure that he will be given the start that he deserves to be honest, as much as I – and the cast majority of you – would like to see…
