Pompey captain Sol Campbell has followed the example of his Pompey team mate Niko Kranjcar by backing his club boss Harry Redknapp for the England job with what he has told The News: ‘Harry’s a top manager and has done a great job at Portsmouth.

‘I’m sure he’d entertain it, but the FA have got to approach him and see what happens.

‘People see him as a Del Boy just because he’s from East London but he’s got a lot more to him than that.

‘That said, I think a lot of players can relate to that.

‘I think if he’s got the right people around him, sure, it could work’.

As I have previously said in an article about Redknapp’s credentials – here, this and his backing for the job seem to be gathering pace, even his own players are backing him.

Fabio Coppello is currently ‘the bookies favourite’ for the job and now Redknapp has moved up to joint second favourite.

Depending on what route the FA take – will they go for an English manager again, or will they opt for a foreign name again – he is looking a strong candidate to get the job, so my worries for Pompey losing him are growing more and more… I cannot stress enough that I just keep praying they will not go for him, although I do know he would do a fantastic job.
