The message to Jed Wallace from Andy Awford is a clear one.

He has basically said ‘the ball is in your court’ as regards to his Pompey future…

Wallace, like the other players that Awford is looking to retain next season, has been met with him going over some of his plans an ambitions for that and future seasons and what would be expected of him – a contract offer has been made to him with him now left to decide what his future holds?

It goes without saying that Awford hopes to keep him but knows that ultimately Wallace will do what he feels is ‘best for him’, which Awford of course feels – and hopes he does too – would be to stay at Pompey.

You could not begrudge Wallace the chance to step up though could you?

The likes of Peterborough, Wolves and Leeds would all be able to offer him league one or championship football next season, but what he would need to make sure is that if he left he would be a regular 1st team player.

If he would not get that then his abilities would be better off served with us.

As said earlier this week it was being hoped that Awford’s previous with Wallace, having played a key role in bringing him to Fratton and nurturing him through the academy, can help sway his thinking.

I do not think it would just be Awford that would be ‘delighted’ if Wallace stayed, lets face it most of us would as he has game changing ability. What is more, should we tie him down to a long-term contract the money we would get for him down the line, should he leave, would be significantly more than a ‘tribunal’ would give us this summer.

Yep, the ball is in his court now with the next move being his.

This next move, I would say almost without doubt, could shape his career for the remainder of it – I really do not think saying such a thing is an overstatement you know to be honest with you…
