Having failed to suitably impress Steve Cotterill during a short spell with Pompey trialist Fernando Vega has moved on.

Cotterill, as he told The News, will not be offering the Spanish fullback a contract having ‘taken a look’ at him: ‘he just came in for a couple of days’ training and we had a look.

‘He got released by Real Betis and it was just a chance for us to have a look at him.’

Vega featured against Rostov, in the charity match last week, and had spent a few days training with the club but the 27-year-old – released by Betis after 115 appearances in a 5-year spell – will not be joining PFC.

He will now continue his search for a new club elsewhere…
