‘Reports’ that Danny Webber has suffered a ‘setback’ in his bid to recover from injury have been denied by the striker himself.

Quite when Webber was returning was not really known, and still is not really known now, although ‘rehab going well’ is something that seems to have been said for ages now – so, in all honesty, I thought that he would have been closer to a return by now…

The implication was that the striker was behind schedule, although Steve Cotterill also said that this is not the case, but did admit that he was a bit down on some muscle mass. Even so he anticipated him returning to training sometime in the New Year, which is Webber’s aim too.

Rushing himself back is something that Webber will not do, and nor should he as I think that ‘might’ finish him as he had had serious injuries before – even so he thinks that he will be ‘up and running’ sometime in January.

Having him as an option again would be a bonus without a doubt and give us another striking option.

For me Webber is still, and has been for a while, the most ‘natural’ goalscorer that we have. Often last season he was played in a wide role and that really is not his area, that said he did a job when asked so credit where it is due.

With his contract ending at the end of the season he is also battling to earn himself a new deal, although Cotterill ‘seems’ to speak highly of him so if/when he does return should he be able to prove his fitness then he has a chance of getting another deal.

Providing that he does return fully fit then I think he would be worth a new contract to be honest, on the right money of course!

Hopefully the New Year can bring some cheer to Webber, who can then bring it for us and start doing what he does best – scoring goals, which at this level he had an undoubted proven record…
