Recently I wrote an article about Marko Futacs being like a new signing…

Like a new signing! – here.

You know what, to a degree, I ‘think’ we could add a couple more names that are already here to such a list of players being like ‘new signings’ to be honest?

Liam Lawrence
To say that I have been ‘unimpressed’ – on the whole – with Lawro for some 6-12-months would be putting it mildly really!

He has been injured a lot, which cannot be helped, but when fit he had had little influence on games offering little in a constructive light with most of his time spent whinging and moaning with his arms flailing all over the shop, acting anything like a captain really…

In the last couple of games he has seemed more of the inspirational driving force and influence he was when he arrived. He is offering everything, putting in a really good shift and playing as part of a team, leading by example.

I wonder just how much Appy deciding to MAKE SURE he was over his injury problems before putting him back in the 1st team has helped?

Previously he was brought back too soon it would seem but Appy appears to have made sure that he really was right before bringing him back and this may work in our favour now.

I was all for him leaving this month just a couple of weeks back but ‘if’ he can stay fit and keeps playing well he certainly would be an asset for us – the problem is his wages, circa £20,000 p/w, are still way more than we can afford…

The Herminator
A lack of pace was seriously exposed during the early weeks of the season – then again has he had much of this for a number of years now?

Also how much was his latest injury setback hampering him?

Without a doubt he is very much in the final throws of his career but his experience, determination, natural ability and infectious personality could still serve us well over the second half of the season.

He, perhaps, is the least likely to have a new lease of life though…

Ryan Williams
I have made it clear that from the limited that we have seen of the guy that I think he has talent and certainly something about him that I think we should capitalise on. He gives us natural width, pace and trickery. He is player that will run at, and beat, people and that is certainly something that we need.

Yep he is raw and lacks experience but hey even the greatest like Lionel Messi were once ‘raw’ and ‘inexperienced’ eh! Williams can make up for these shortcomings with hunger and desire I would say, and he ‘should’ most certainly have plenty of this is he wants to make it as a footballer?

It has been good to see him back in some squads recently – of course injuries and suspensions might have helped him – but the advantage that he ‘hopefully’ has is that Appy is someone that I feel, unlike others, will recognise this ability and not cast him aside because of his youthfulness.

Yep, all being well some real 1st team opportunities will be presented to the young Aussie in 2012…

Others we could look to count in as ‘possibilities’ to come into the 1st team picture, especially if we are unable to use the transfer market this month, are Lewis Stockford, Lewis Tallack and Sam Magri.

Magri especially must surely be close to a breakthrough into the 1st team squad in the not too distant future?
