MickTait’s poll to find the ‘most wanted’ loanee will hardly come as a surprise, although his write-up makes for good reading – read on for more.

Most wanted loan player to be acquired as a permanent player, the scores were:

Greg Halford 50%
Ritchie De Laet 23%
None of Them 16%
Ibrahima Sonko 5%
Carl Dickinson 2%
Jonathan Hogg 2%
David Cotterill 2%

I think that parts of the result of this poll will come as little surprise to most people but what I have tried to do is to break down my take upon each player’s contribution and perhaps explained why I think the result.

Greg Halford 50%. Overwhelming support for Greg, he enters a very uncertain future if any future at all at Wolves not seeming to be rated by Wolves and only one year left on his contract. If Wolves get relegated they will be looking to cut their costs. If he could fit around the wages we could offer, possibly a bit higher and tie him up on a three year deal I believe this would be a good deal. Transfer Fee – Could we swap him for ‘Mock of the Week’.

Ritchie De Laet 23%. I think United will want him back but hopefully not. Another year long loan if they won’t sell him in the summer (he has stated his desire to stay). Ritchie is out of contract next season and a ‘free’ would be a fantastic bit of business.

None of Them 16%. I think this is a bit slewed because of the anti Sonko and Dickinson result. At times this season we would have given up quite a lot to lose them.

Ibrahima Sonko 5%. If you would have told me he would have been the third out of six most popular loan player I don’t think I would have believed it, but I guess a different way to look at it is 95% felt there were better options, even if that meant no loan players at all.

Carl Dickinson 2%. A committed player who I would not rule out us signing (provided there was no transfer fee.) However not popular and possibly suffered from the Stoke and Sonko backlash.

Jonathan Hogg 2%. Bit of a surprise the percentage was so low. Villa will not want to lose him anyway he has done ok and certainly helped us cope with the loss of Brown and Hughes. There certainly would have been room for worry had we lost Brown and Hughes and Ward had not come through.

David Cotterill 2%. Flattered to deceive, compared to Uslaka on a lot less money, formed a decent partnership with Ritchie De Laet and regardless of Swansea’s future has no future there now. So perhaps the question is do we see Swansea reserves as our future?
