Blackburn Rovers and South African midfield player Aaron Mokoena has revealed he has agreed to join Pompey on a three year year contract.

Mokoena the South African captain is a combative midfield player who has been at Rovers for three seasons but has found it difficult to make the starting line up under boss Sam Allardyce. With the 2010 World Cup in his home country Mokoena feels he needs regular first team football to cement his place in the national team.

He told Rovers Radio ‘I am going to Portsmouth, I am going there to play, it is what every player wants to do. I have decided it is time to move on for me. As we know we have a World Cup in South Africa and I have to play, I have to play week in, week out. So it is going to be a good challenge for me going to Portsmouth and we’ll see how it goes.

As Rug just said to me on the phone, does this mean Paul Hart already have the job as we are agreeing deal already? Is the the kind of player we are going to be signing over the summer window to replace those who do not agree their new contracts which could possibly be on reduced wages?
