Could Jez Bedford become the latest Pompey youngster given a chance in the first team?

Well, there’s a potential opportunity as he was recalled from what was proposed as a season-long loan at Poole Town on Tuesday to help cope with the injury and suspension issues Kenny Jackett is faced with.

Bedford, 19, could be in the squad going to Fleetwood this evening.

Suspension to Nathan Thompson, the right back who has been playing in midfield, means the former Swindon captain will now serve a four-match ban, further stretching the central options due to the injuries to Danny Rose and Stuart O’Keefe too.

Gareth Evans is also missing along with Brett Pitman; both are set to sit out ‘weeks rather than days.’

During his time at the National League side Bedford made 32 appearances, grabbing five goals.

Has this done enough to bring him a shot in the Pompey first team squad? If he wouldn’t be there and thereabout, clearly the coaching staff have been keeping an eye on Bedford, in spite of the problems the Blues have, why bring him back as he would better off seeing out his spell at Poole.
