Pedro Mendes had admitted that he is aware of interest in him from Mallorca and in particularly Sporting, but insists that he is happy to stay with us: ‘I know of any movements but, still, I’ve been in Portsmouth two years and it is basically the decision of my club.

‘I am happy at Pompey.

‘However, it is also an attractive and major project in Sporting and playing in the Champions League.’

Mendes has always appeared a man of honour, so if he says he will honour his contract if asked I am sure that he will – there should be no reason that we would want to sell him anyway, as I maintain my thoughts that he is still one of the best midfielders we have, and one of the best of his type around.

All being well he will stay, and indeed play more next season as he always brought the best out of Lassana Diarra when he played alongside him…

Some of you may have seen what Vital Spurs had to say earlier – but if not as reported over there it is ‘claimed’ by the papers today that Harry Redknapp has launched a £2m bid for Younes Kaboul.

Whilst I have no doubt that we could get him if we really wanted him – and I really am coming round to the idea of signing him, as despite a difficult season with Spurs last year he is a very talented youngster – if we got him that cheaply I would be as amazed as Spurs fans would be disappointed at such a price…

His value has varied from anywhere between £2m and £5m this summer – according to the papers anyway!

As ever guys, thoughts on all the above is appreciated…
