I remember season 1987-88, we had lost 3 games, badly, and drawn 2-2 with the Scum, when West Ham arrived at Fratton.
The great Liam Brady, the young Paul Ince and Frank McAvennie and Tony Cottee up front not an easy game, but Pompey even though we had a few injuries pulled off a great 2-1 victory after being a goal behind, our saviour being Kevin Dillon who scored both of our goals.
We also got a point at Upton Park that year when I think Terry ‘Casualty Ward’ Connor got our equaliser.
Two seasons later I remember they came to Fratton and beat us 1-0 when Leroy Rosenior scored the winner. I think we lost 1-2 at Upton Park and Martin Kuhl scored for us. I loved that man, what a winner he was, in a poor team.
Then fast forward to 1992, Fratton Park, and we are live on the television, in those days we never won if we were on the box and struggled to even score, we are doing well and then Andy Awford and the Legend have a major misunderstanding which results in Clive Allen poaching the winner as only he could, and also that week the Ice Man was sold to Derby, put me on suicide watch I cant believe it!!
Hope this evokes some memories.
