McGee the Pompey no.1

Luke McGee is the Pompey no.1, right? Erm, wrong it seems as Kenny Jackett doesn’t tend to agree. On-loan Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Stephen Henderson appears his go too man?

Henderson’s return to Fratton Park came out of the blue, but Jackett said he’d had an interest in him for a while, saying he feels McGee will benefit in the long-term from a spell out of the limelight, all but admitting the Irishman will start against Doncaster on Saturday.

Jackett told the News: ‘I would think he would come straight in (to the starting line-up). I never necessarily pick the side on a Thursday, but for Luke I feel a step backwards to go forwards in the long run will be good for him. Stephen Henderson is someone I have been interested for a while and I’m pleased to get him.’

Yes, I’m a fan of Henderson, I thought he was top class during his first spell, which only came to an end out of necessity, but McGee has impressed since arriving from Tottenham in the summer so wasn’t someone I thought needed replacing.

It was a close call but more feel McGee should be the Pompey no.1.

What the poll asked – Who will be the no.1?

How you voted – McGee 58%
Henderson 42%

Apparently, Jackett disagrees though and he’s the one who gets paid to make these decisions. Time will tell if he’s right, in fairness and I can understand his reasoning and hope it does indeed benefit the former Spurs academy player.

Having mentioned Doncaster above; we move onto this game at Fratton Park.
