Let’s face it Pompey weren’t at ‘crisis point’ but a win was needed, so to secure it at Wimbledon – a first since the opening day win against Rochdale – on Saturday was welcomed.

A goal in each half was enough for the Blues to triumph 2-0 at Kingsmeadow.

When experienced pair Brett Pitman and Barry Fuller went head to head the challenge from the Wimbledon captain on the Pompey one saw a penalty awarded – Pitman himself stepped up and made no mistake to put us ahead on 38 minutes.

Defensive uncertainty allowed Conor Chaplin to again make an impact from the bench as the Blues forward, minutes after his arrival, made the most of Anthony Hartigan’s error to wrap up an overdue win.

As said I wouldn’t say we had been ‘desperate’ for a win but points were needed, dare I say expected from the Dons? Well that one and/or Northampton, which will take place at Sixfields on Tuesday evening.
