On the day that Pompey completed their fifth signing of the summer with Arnold Mvuemba arriving from Rennes – development in youth has also been strengthen further with other new arrivals and the news that Marc Wilson has agreed a new 2-year contract.

Wilson said on the new and improved Pompey site ‘I am really pleased – chuffed to bits to be honest you. I’ve enjoyed being at Portsmouth and hopefully this season I’ll get a chance to play’.

The Irish U21 international is a product of our own youth system; so it is very positive to see him given a new contract so he can stay here for a while longer and hopefully stake a claim for a place – when many before him seem to have been shown the door too soon?

After successful loan spells with Yeovil and Bournemouth, Pompey made it clear they wanted to keep him and they have – and maybe he might even get a chance this season? The league cup could be a strong possibility.

So with Marc Wilson (19), Martin Cranie (20) – having arrived from the Saints, Paris Cowan-Hall (16) and Callum Reynolds (17) – the two kids from Rushden & Diamonds, it would appear that plans are now very much geared at the long term as well as the present.

Not forgetting that at 22 Arnold Mvuemba is still very young as it fellow arrival – and record signing – Sulley Muntari, also 22.

So we have what is starting to look a nice blend of youth and experience, all we need now is the strikers – and they will come!

PLAY UP POMPEY!
