We get to know a little more about pompeygray.

1 – Vital Pompey username?
pompeygray (named after my best greyhound 34 times winner in Sydney).

2 – Where do you come from/where do you currently live?
Born in Guildford, Surrey 8th October 1949 and currently residing in Sydney, Australia. My number plate on my car in the Olympic City is of course ‘POMPEY’ I played my Cricket with GUILDFORD CITY and emigrated in 1973. I live with my Scottish girlfriend, after being married once and lived in the Blue Mountains, west of Sydney.

3 – How long have you been a Vital Pompey member?
Since about February 2006 and over 1,700 posts since.

4 – What do you think of Vital Pompey? Be brutally honest!
Has definitely improved to become the best around. Lots of up to date news with good, responsible reporting.

5 – How did you find out about Vital Pompey?
Discovered it by accident actually whilst checking all things Pompey on ‘NEWS NOW’.

6 – When did you first watch Pompey live – not on box unless this is the only way you have been able to see them? Not necessarily at Fortress Fratton though.
V Manchester City about 1957. My Dad took me down and we were 2-0 up at half time. I was a very confident young kid and assumed we would go on to win, but alas football is a funny game and I went home disappointed at the 3-4 scoreline.

7 – How often do you get to watch Pompey?
At every live televised game that is possible. I have FOX SPORTS at home and they have 4 interactive games live at Midnight (3 PM UK time). Of course when I make my trips back home to England I generally pay for a VIP ticket and enjoy one of the lounges. This December will be about my 30th trip back so I guess I have seen a lot of live games at Fratton although I have also been on the road to watch them at places like Sunderland, Wolverhampton and even Grimsby.

8 – Who is your favourite Pompey Player – current and/or former?
Favourite current player, probably all of them as I think they are a great bunch of blokes who work hard for each other. To have to single someone out is difficult, but for his efforts Benjani and for his dedication and loyalty Linvoy Primus.

9 – What is you favourite Pompey moment?
Watching Pompey beat Oxford Utd (who were then top of the old 2nd Division) around Christmas 1984. Pompey were trailing 1-0 with 5 minutes to go when Santa ran on to the pitch to hold the game up. After being evicted the game recommenced with 2 unbelievable Alan Biley 90th minute headers to bring the Fratton faithful into delirium. Jim Smith was Oxford’s Manager at the time and I have since reminded him of that moment when at one of the VIP games a few seasons ago.

10 – What are your realistic hopes for Pompey in the future?
To obviously be regarded as a force in the Premiership. Perhaps we will never be a big 4 contender, but it would be nice to be a regular participator in Europe. I think if we can qualify this time round we would be ready for a plunge. I am actually glad that we didn’t qualify from last season as I believe we needed to build towards that project first. Look at Bolton at the moment.
