Kitson breaks silence

An article from penton that looks at Dave Kitson’s ‘interesting’ comments about former manager Steve Cotterill – read on for more.

So! It had to happen; a Pompey player has come out with a few lines aimed no doubt in the direction of our former Manager.

In a piece in ‘The News’ by Jordan Cross, Dave Kitson is quoted as saying that; “Pompey are playing without pressure.”

There are plenty of little snippets in the piece, that gives me the impression Kitson and Cotterill weren’t exactly on each others Christmas card list. Kitson goes on to say that he feels the impression Whittingham and Gray have imbued on the squad, has given over to a more relaxed style and furthermore a new unity in the squad.

Kitson say’s “We played for each other out there” and “We’re not playing with any pressure.” Judging by last night’s performance and the second half at the weekend, it would be hard to disagree with the striker.

He does offer one broadside to his former ‘Gaffer’. He believes Cotterill’s departure could be “Good for the Club, good for the team and good for the players.” No doubt this was in response to the lack lustre performances the team had produced on many occasions this season.

Something does smack a little of a response to Cotterill’s jibe that he’d joined a team with ‘More stability!’ I have not doubt more of this kind of thing will raise it’s ugly head over the coming weeks, and with Forest on our radar soon, it could lead to a tasty weekend.

Judging by not only the teams shackle free performances in the last two games; but also the Orange Phoenix’s rise from the ashes to find the form we had hoped he’d produced. Long may this continue! Both in his performances and also our rise up the table and giving us the entertainment we so richly deserve…

As that lot showed down the road last night. Thirty two thousand turned up to St Mary’s, now that kind of number doesn’t turn up for a team playing long distant hoof ball and a team struggling at the wrong end of the table. Success and attractive football will get the turnstiles moving again at Fratton Park; I’m sure of it.

So whether Kitson was right or not to air his views in public. At least he had the nerve to do it and let us know that no matter what the Club would have you believe, not all the squad was entirely happy with their lot.
