As much as Harry Redknapp would like to keep Kanu, he has said in The News that he thinks the Nigerian will be playing his football elsewhere next season.

‘I think Kanu might move somewhere else.

‘It wouldn’t be the biggest surprise in the world to me if he did. He’s a strong character.

‘He’s been offered a year and will get another year if he plays 20 games in all competitions. That’s the way it works. It’s fair.

‘The 20-game figure is a safeguard in case the fitness of a player suddenly goes.

‘If a player has been injured, for instance, and hasn’t played 20 games, but he’s done well and is in good shape, then I could look to keep him.

‘It’s not as if I’m going to bomb someone out if they’ve done well but haven’t played exactly 20 games.’

Yes, I would agree with Redknapp, but would be less unsure about it – Kanu will be leaving Pompey. This is something I think most of us have accepted as being the case for sometime now. My thinking is that this situation will come to a conclusion in the next week or so.

I can understand Kanu wanting this security but can understand the clubs reluctance to give it to him even more.

Like Redknapp, I too like Kanu – and personally I do feel that some of his criticism has been a bit extreme – but do think we need someone else now. I also do not think he is up to the challenge of playing 2-years of football in this country and he knows this himself – ergo reasons for wanting the security he is after, to safeguard himself.

PLAY UP POMPEY!
