David James has conceded just three goals in eight appearances and believes that maintaining this high level of performance will see him recalled.

‘That (England return) is my goal,’ James told Sky Sports News. ‘As long I consider myself to be playing right, I don’t see why I shouldn’t allow myself the opportunity to be included.

‘It is the goal I set and everything is good.

‘I have always seen England as the elite, it is the best performers performing and if I can maintain a level of performance which would get me back into the squad I would hope to be in position to challenge for playing.

‘If I am playing at my best, it is all I can do.’

‘When I come off the field I analyse my performances and there are areas which can be improved.

‘We look at things without being silly and we want to keep it on a nice level and at the moment things are on a nice level.

‘The longer that continues then I am happy and the team is happy.’

James will be hoping to impress Saturday as it is rumoured that McClaren will be at Chelsea vs Portsmouth.

Should he be in the England team?
